New site? Maybe some day.
Yes! Have been waiting for them to get added to this. May very well make the trek to Ohio for this -- would be my second time seeing them. |
I'd go for Twisted Tower Dire more than anyone else even though the singer on the albums I like is dead and the new guy isnt nearly as good. |
What a wacky festival. Would be so pumped to see Manilla Road. |
true metal. hipster free. support. |
we should find out what it costs to have Manilla Road come play here and just all kick in $$$ to make it happen. Maybe it will be like when Quiet Riot played The Rat. |
I would quite enjoy seeing Manilla Road, Helstar, and Twisted Tower Dire...and challenge the Borrowed Time guys to a duel to get my high school band name idea back. |
I thought the flyer said Benediction as well and got excited. Would be cool to see Manilla road though. |
Benedictum is pretty cool. Didn't see them on there. |
benediction would be a little out of place on this fest but i bet they could....
*sunglasses*
TRANSCEND THE RUBIGENRE and still get a great reaction.
ok that was awful. |
Nice to see some proper metal mentioned in this usual wasteland of the hip, the dumb, and the mediocre.
Borrowed Time gets a big horns up from me, they are on their way to ruling hard. |

I'd contribute. |

I second that! AND I'm stoked that Manilla Road got added! |

get enough people to throw in like $50. Perhaps something kickstarter style? |
I would contribute, if I weren't convinced that the other idiots who contribute wouldn't want their crappy faux black metal or their friends' wannabe hip trendy bands to open the show.
Alternately, in typical fashion everyone would want to add a million local opening bands, that are all mediocre, forgettable, and have no right to be on the billing, just to try to recoup costs or turn a profit.
If we were to raise money enough to provide proper support, I would do it. I would need assurance that this would not turn into the usual shitshow that passes for a "metal" gig around these parts though. I'm not going to waste my time or money on booking a proper band only to have every idiot who can play an instrument and draw an illegible logo jump on the bill in an effort to attain notoriety for their pitiful band.

what the fuck are you blabbering about? black metal? hipsters? What shows are you going to? sounds gay, go to better shows.
Crystal logic tells me Manilla Road doesn't need support. hypothetically however i'd be butthurt if steel assassin wasn't asked. ravage should probably be asked, then some of the other smaller "Heavy" metal bands can fight over it. 4 bands is enough.
do i know you dude? where are you from. |
I didn't mind (too much, anyway) seeing Uriah Heep play by themselves last year, although I don't know if Manilla Road would draw enough to make playing by themselves worthwhile. Hypothetically, if that happened, I'd be just as happy (especially if they play more than 90 minutes) as I would be if they had some appropriate support, a'la Steel Assassin or even Armory. Or Night Bitch! |
doom should stay out of this one. i would like it to be a heavy metal night. Like that raven show last year. |
Doom is by and large trendy, banal and uninspired. Most idiots think doom is about a bong and fuzz pedal, and that is not what Manilla Road are about.
Agreed it should be nowhere near this show, if it happens. |
Who gives a shit who opens?? MANILLA ROAD |

not a Witchfinder General fan i take it. not going to bother argue the nonsense of that. if you don't like it whatever, other people's opinions and attitudes shouldn't matter.
within this week i'm going to try and contact them and see what it would take to get them out here, unless somebody more notarized in booking wants to do it. Thinking its going to be somewhere in the 2000-4000 range, for a one off show. someone PLEASE correct me if i'm way off on price range. |

Don't be an idiot, I love Witchfinder General. That's not what I who was being reference at all. They are from The Golden Age that is true metal, and NWOBHM certified.
I'm speaking about the dime a dozen shitty bands who think you one day buy a bong, a big amp and a fuzz pedal, then declare Black Sabbath your favorite band and that's doom.
Get Witchfinder General on the bill and that would make it even better.

no way they're still active. |
Last I checked, they had a new singer, a new album, and were playing festivals in Europe. That was a couple years ago, to be honest I'm not sure if that is the story still. |
haha i can tell i havnt slept yet, i just sent manilla road an email. |
good thing manowarriors here to school us all on true metal and contribute with all these helpful ideas. |
Doomriders should play this! |

FUZZ!!!!! I LOVE FUZZZ!!! |
Quick, someone book Manilla Road at the Model Cafe with Powerstance and Lich King. Turbojugend can DJ between sets. |
Hey! Turbojugend Boston >>>> LICH KING |
Also I would gladly front $50 towards a MR guarantee, anywhere in Boston, PVD, Worc. or elsewhere in a 45 min radius. |
I'd totally throw money down for this. Manilla Road MUST play in MA! |
alright, here's the deal they got back to me. I guess their drummer is from Germany which is why they don't play the US that often. They kind of hinted at a possible 2013 tour.
They'd want all travel and lodging paid for. 4 people from us, one from Germany. plus their performance fee is $2000. They want a back line for a one off show, and be able to sell their merch.
But!!! they claim be able to put on a two and a half to three hour show. |
more or less we're going to have to figure out how to get 300 people to go to a metal show, and pay $20 for it. |
not including the back line or venue its looking like $6400. About 2400 out of my budget. |
Hm... Lots of bands idk there. |
New England Manilla Road Fest 2012. NEMRF!!!! |

i'll ask my rich family to front it to me. lol
i'm going to stay in touch with them, and get them on tour so the travel isn't crazy stupid. $2500 is way more do-able than 6000 +. |

Maybe we could get a bunch of people together and try to raise money for it? |

Sitting at your computer on adderall doing level design manilla road appreciation |

its not worth it unless their travel exp. can be split between all the promoters on a tour. which they hinted at next year. while i love heavy metal, it doesn't do well unless you're maiden or priest, and $40+ tickets are gay.
losing a couple hundred is whatever. losing a couple thousand..... fucked.

but...but....Orange is so groovy maaaaan. |
I now have a ticket to the Warriors of Metal fest. Looking forward to checking it out. |
me and the singer for HellStar loved to meet with other local metal heads in a metal bar in Tampa Fl. for metal karaoke. he was singing for a sabbath/priest tribute band at the time. i didnt know he was the singer for Hellstar till long after going our separate ways. real humble guy. we were big fans of each others vocal stylings. those were good times. i remember singing classic metal tunes with members of Canibal corpse, Diecide, Savatage, C.O.F., etc in the audience any given night. how did i forget the name of that killer joint?! haters may proceed in hating now. |
Manilla Road , one of my earliest introductions to Metal. 84 maybe? i remember having a double album from them, my first from them. it was intended to be played at a higher speed the normal albums. but i wasnt aware at the time. so i ended up playing the album to slow for years before i caught on.
i thought they were a DOOM Metal band on account of the wrong speed i played the vinyl at. later i learned they played much faster. liek ayear later. but iut was enough to make me feel kinda dumb about it. but they sounded good ata a doom pace. you would never have guessed the album was playing to slow. but they did sound better when i figured it out. |
