Considering a move to Providence in the next 6 months or so for work, but want to know if there are decent venues/bands/people that want to start bands or actually bother going to shows. The city itself looks busted as shit but if there's an ok music scene it might not be a waste of time. Discuss.

Providence rules.
It definitely has the most bands and loud music per capita of any place. Not really a "metal" scene though. Doom, punk, grind, crust, noise. electronic, hardore, black metal etc. If you are looking for death metal, traditional metal or pizza thrash you are shit out of luck.

There are actually much worse bands from the Providence area than GSS. Hard to believe I'm sure, but I'd rather see them than Absynthe or All for Blood if it came down to it.
In case you were wondering, yes the bass player is a tranny.

Why is GSS hated so much I want to see real reasons why. I am talking I want to see them talking shit for no reason and playing horrible music. If that is the case I will hate them too.

The truth is gss is a gimmicky band with socially awkward dudes who have taken internet trolling to a retarted level and most of us are just annoyed so we hate them for fun even though their new material really isn't all that bad.

Josh, we don't have a metal scene but we do have a weekly metal night.

Always love going to providence for shows! Great bands, cool people, funky venues, chill atmosphere, like the city too!
It was very inconsiderate of the drummer of that goth band to put a hazmat placard on his drum kit when some trucker out there somewhere might have needed that someday. Harumph.
Another craptastic RI band that may give you folks some lulz is Prayers For Atheists, a RATM-style rock/rap band fronted by a "professional protester" person. I went to high school with their drummer too. Seriously some of the worst shit I've ever heard.
I didnt mention prayers for athiests cause i forgot they existed and they are not terrible if you are into that sort of music and they have some non rap punk jams that are ok ish. A hip hop inspired group led by a spoken word artist on strange famous records owned by sage francis makes sense. Scare Don't Fear however...........ugh.

Music for terrible people.
The only reason I even know of this band's existence is because for reasons completely unknown to me that I'll probably never understand, they get a lot of support from the Riotous Outburst kids. Oh well.
Oh yeah, and the fact that the drummer of this band is a kid I went to high school with who did a complete 180 in personality/beliefs... in the earlier years of HS, he actually used to be quite hateful and racist, especially bizarre when you take into account he's a Venezuelan immigrant.
Jared Paul is a pretty intelligent guy, never cared much for his band though. Guess it doesn't say much when you'd rather hear what he has to say between the songs. I saw him open a spoken word Jello Biafra show.
ASK NEWBURY COMICS IF THEY CARRY THE HOGG CD AT NEWBURY COMICS
ASK THEM IF IT IS TRUE THEIR FIRST GUITARIST CLAIMED WHILE DRUNK AFTER PLAYING A HOUSE SHOW IN SOUTH KINGSTOWN THAT THEY HAD A TOTALLY ORIGINAL SOUND AND WERE LIKE NO OTHER BAND EVER BEFORE
